There are some neat concepts that require a single spell at 0 maintenance cost (Leprechauns on Flying Carpets, for example) but if the mage can cast long-lasting magic on the entire party at once, your brain will explode.ģ. Make a house rule that no spell can have its maintenance cost reduced to 0, or perhaps that a mage can only have 1 spell at 0 maintenance cost. Also include some high-mana zones or monsters that can be easily defeated by magic, such as Toxifiers and Skull Spirits.Ģ. Liberally populate your delve sites with no-mana, low-mana, or weird man zones and monsters that are resistant to magic. On the other hand, the utility of magic can be pretty insane: it doesn't take that many points to be able to maintain Air Walk for 0 energy, and then the entire party can ignore most bad terrain and ground based traps.ġ. Mages that throw fireballs for 3d or 4d damage every round or two will generally feel weak compared to Scouts and Knights who toss 1d+6 (2) or 3d+6 attacks 2 or 3 times per round. My experience is that GURPS Magic can have very weird power levels. That's a lot for a personal possession but might be reasonable for an elegant marble cathedral chased with gold and what-not. suggests that a 270 point power item would cost $2.7 million. I haven't really thought about the mechanics, but it would make sense that the high priest of the temple could treat the entire temple building as his powerstone. No one has seriously contemplated doing so, but that's an option. In my campaign, the PCs can buy Resurrections from the temples for $12600. How do YOU handle Resurrection in your campaign? A mere 300 days to enchant each scroll by someone who does know the spell, thank you very much. If you rule that scroll spells can be used in ceremony, mages without the spell can help. You can get the number of uberhealers needed a small bit lower with I think share energy.Ī spell stone can be slow enchanted with the spell over a mere 6000 days or so by someone who knows it. So maybe there's a whole bunch of them kicking around, the hard part is just to get 10-15 of them in one spot and cooperating with each other. ![]() The kind of high level healers who can cast it will also be effectively unaging and very hard to kill since they can patch themselves up and will probably have halt aging and youth. They're not always limited to 26 fp like human types are. Though, it will probably have so many quirks on it that it's a quest in and of itself to fulfill them and tap the energy.Ī powerful enough supernatural being can do it on it's own, if so inclined. ![]() The players might get a 290 point power stone. It's not impossible to use the resurrection spell, just very unlikely you can get access to it in time: Is there a "delay corpse aging" spell in this game?įor the vanilla rules, the ONLY plausible method I know of bringing mortals back from death using something they might themselves have made is the resurrection potion. I think you'll find that the lamest thing about the resurrection spell as written isn't just the cost, but that you can't effectively quest for it due to the penalty on skill per day after death. Frankly I don't know why anyone even bothered putting the spell in the game as written. You've got options if you want it to be available, but with the vanilla rules, player characters are never likely going to cast it. How do YOU handle Ressurection in your campaign?Īny tips concerning gm'ing a game with Magic would also be welcome. ![]() Is that spell only castable by using ritual magic with a bunch of mages (or clerics) casting it together?ĭid I miss something, a rule, where the player can cast any spell not minding the cost? Will it just take longer as he needs to gather the 300 FP needed to cast the spell? Is this done through Power Items (Also, the list in DF1 has the most expensive Power Item with 40 FP at 37'000$ which is not enough to cast the spell)? Since this is a very powerful spell the point cost is ok as it is, my problem is: How could such a spell ever be unleashed because nobody has 300 Fatigue Points?! Or HP for that matter. In GURPS Magic on page 94 it says that Resurrection costs 300 points to cast. I now have a problem with certain spells, I will use Resurrection as a example. As I have yet to use Magic in a GURPS setting, I have just begun to study the Basic Set in regard to magic and snooped around in GURPS Magic a bit. ![]() I'm getting ready to run my first Dungeon Fantasy game.
